April 4, 2003 - Electric Factory - Philadelphia, PA, US Concert review by Nate (natefro38256 at yahoo dot com) Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews This was the greatest concert I have ever been to, or damn near it. The band was simply on, never missing anything. This was the first time I had seen Zwan, and I was highly impressed. Billy and Co. took the rather interesting tactic of getting both singles out of the way within the first five songs. "Lyric" makes as good an opener in concert as it does on the album. Excellent start. Other early highlights were a perfect "El Sol" and an excellent "Don't Let Me Down," where David Pajo's abilities on bass awed me. Most of the highlights of this show, however, definately occurred in the second half. "Jesus I/God's Gonna Set This World On Fire" absolutely smoked, with a solo that made me want to cry at my own guitar ineptitude. Afterwards, Billy commented that a girl in the front had said she had an orgasm during the song(s), ironic given the songs' religious nature. The other highlight of this half was "Mary Star of the Sea," which is absolutely one of the 10 best rock songs ever written I believe. The first encore of "Endless Summer" was very Pumpkin-esque, right down to the Siamese Dream-era styled psychedelic projections. The second encore, a somber "Of a Broken Heart," and a very, very long "Spilled Milk" closed the show. The energy level was incredible. If you haven't seen Zwan yet, do so. |
