March 20, 2003 - Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee, WI, US Concert review by Eric Drzewiecki Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews i'll warn you right away, this is going to be long. my friends and i met up around 9 am. (drew, and jon) we drove down to milwaukee, andat about 11:30ish.. watched the band arive... from a distance. after that, we went to atomic records, and looked around... they had an impressive array of LPs...i bought the honestly single (australia import) for about $10... but only b/c i liked the store. we bummed around best buy, until we decided to go back to the rave, and see if there was a line... there were about 10 people in line already, so we decided to get in line too... fortunately, i parked my car right on the street, next to the rave, so it was practically 30 steps away from the front doors :D well... it was only about 2:45, and the doors wouldn't open til 7... so, we were thinking we would be bored witless. well, we were wrong. lori (qualudes) and her man were infront of us in line, and we had a great time with them, while we were waiting. some guy pulled over next to us, and was asking lori for some ass...well, he might have been asking drew, but i'm not sure... we didn't respond, and eventually he went away. they let us in around 4:30-5ish, to wait in the bar area. that was nice, b/c it was warmer in there. i was in consistent conversation with jules (precious whore) who was in the hospital with her daughter... (HAPPY BIRTHDAY :D) i was worried she wouldn't be able to go, but we'll get to that later. well, they played a lot of shitty music while i was waiting in line, along with occasional decent songs now and then, but it was loud, and i couldn't hear when the phone was ringing, generally. around 6:20ish, tim and his posse showed up, and i snuck them up where we were in line (you owe me again, tim :) ) shortly after, they opened the doors, about 5 minutes early, actually. tim, his friends (who were all really cool) and i were on sweeney side, right next to the noise producers. i heard the phone ringing, too late, with jules calling, saying her phone was about dead, and that she was coming in w/ her brother, karl. well, i call back asap, and let her know where we are, but i had to leave it as a msg. well... i saw her looking around, but i wasn't sure if it was her, so i asked her if she was looking for someone, and she said yeah. so, i said "i'm eric" anyway... to the show. the opening act, children's hour... YUCK. i've seen them once before, and i was equally disturbed. well, after a long period of time, which gave us bad, looped shit-music (semi-technoish, bullshit) zwan came out, about 9pm. they opened with endless summer, went on to declarations... and then, they surprised me with don't let me down... but, during a song, billy turned and looked at me for a little while, and i smiled really big...and then he pointed right at me! i was totally excited about that, so i was really getting more and more pumped as the show continued. they played all the other album songs in the concert, except for come with me, ride a black swan, and baby lets rock. for the encore, they dazzled me with baby lets rock first, and then did a bitching version of spilled milk. during spilled milk, i turned and looked at jules (something i couldn't really help but doing, she told me how she really wanted to hear spilled milk, and she's a cutie too ) and she was grinning SO big, i wanted to hug her then and there. thought it was over... but i stayed, calling out, and cheering continued. much to my excitement, zwan came out one last time, and played "a new poetry" which blew me away... there was no way i thought they would play that. when they finished, all the members walked off stage, except for billy, and jimmy threw his drum sticks. billy was waving to people, and thanking them, on the other side of the stage. he went over to the middle, waved some more. and then... he came over to the sweeney side, reached over, reached out to ME and gave me a two-handed handshake!!! this was the highlight of the evening for me, i was totally blown away. he had looked directly at me, and stopped, and shook MY hand!!! after the show, our group went out to julia's house, and later to a cofeeshop, and had a great time socializing (yes, even me) eventually, things started getting late, and a little after one, our group had to split up, as drew, jon, karl, julia and i went back to julia's appt. we all spent the night there, (i got couch, obviously) and i talked to julia in the morning before she went back to check on her daughter (her boyfriend spent the night at the hospital, so keep all three in your thoughts and prayers) it was a truely awesome time... if anyone has anything to add... please do :D (if anyone wants to get ahold of me, i am Galapoghost at www.zwanonline.com) |
