December 14, 2002 - First Union Center - Philadelphia, PA, US Concert review by Jack (alcoac49 at aol dot com) Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews As the crowd held its collectinve breath, the announcer gave the cue that Zwan was to take the stage next. In mid-sentence, the Wildcat himself, Billy Corgan walked out on stage without fanfare, pyrotechnics, or a skirt, merely a Fender Strat, a sweater and a smile. The first song was unknown, but took the ammassed audience by force. To some, it was as if they had truly begun to appreciate music, to others, it was as if the Pumpkins had never broken up. Zwan then launched into "Honestly" their radio hit and considerably rocked it up in true Corgan fashion. Billy brought out a smaller Strat with a capo at the 2nd to enchant thousands with the ballad "Until I Died," for which Paz played violin. Zwan illuminated the people with the hymn "Jesus" which erupted in a 15 minute jam with Billy thrashing apart a Flying V and Jimmy dazzilingly attacking his drum set as nonchalantly as if he were on the can reading the paper. Zwan may not be the Pumpkins, and Zwan may not be the most popular band on the scene, but they rock with a ferocity that is missing from many "bands" these days. I loved that show, and I'm going to see Zwan every time they come by. After all, it isn't every day you get to see a god...let alone TWO. |
