Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews

Friday night at the Eagles Club
Well, it was my second time seeing Zwan (and Children's Hour) so I was stoked for a good show. Pajo played drums for the Children's Hour's folk-ish set, and then Zwan came on. I had seen them at the Metro on 1/19 and was very impressed that the quality of their music had changed very little from the CD. All of the same effects were there, as well as balance that, while loud, certainly made the entire spectrum of their sound audible. They opened with the favorite "Endless Summer", the energy building through the "wasting time.." refrain. They followed it up with a Beatles cover, "Don't Let Me Down", both songs accompanied by fabulous background lighting displays. They meandered through the CD, with bizzare backup vocals on "Desire", but grace and meticulous musicality through "El Sol" and "Desire", which he described as one of his favorites in one of his rare addresses to the crowd. Clad in a thrift-store white sweater, Billy thanked the crowd for showing up, knowing that "you all could be at home watching the war on TV." Excluding that remark, an introduction of the band, and several "Thank you"'s, it was a nice, long set of solid music. "God's Gonna Set This World On Fire" was another song that found its way into the set, becoming almost a Zwan standard and another song with specific spiritual references. The show concluded with two encores, one that included "Baby Let's Rock". As the crowd's heads bobbed up and down, you could tell that they were definetely rocking, throwing politics and religion aside.
