Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews

Zwan is made up of Smashing Pumpkin's Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain as well as guitarist Matt and bassist Skullfisher. Without much announcement or hassle from the press, the show was of course sold out. This is no side project, this is Zwan, Billy's new band. They have been showcasing their new material in the past four shows. With no Smashing Pumpkins songs on the playlist, the band played a very similar style. It is as if a continuation of the Pumpkin's songs.

What did the fans think? At the end of the show, as the band exited the stage, the entire crowd stood still and chanted "Zwan" for several minutes with intense cheer. It wasn't "Billy" it wasn't "Jimmy" that they wanted but Zwan. Apparently, the band had gotten the desired impact. Billy is on his road to another success story. They came out and play one last song, a ballad, with a keyboard on board. Passionate and intense as ever were Billy's lyrics of love. An inspired musician living in Los Angeles, refreshing himself from the intensity of one of the most successful bands of the 90's.

Among the attendees, there was Ozzy Osburne's kids, No Doubt's Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal, Rumblefish members and many many industry insiders.

Also, stay tuned for Abandoned Pools, the opening band for Zwan, handpicked by Billy Corgan himself. With a sound similar to the Smashing Pumpkins and a singer who used to play in the Eels, this band is causing quite a stir among the scene. Inspired musicians with a current single's video that is amazing all audiences. Definitely worth a check, as the Los Angeles scene continues to be revived by music from all angles.
