Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews

It was with a great smile on my face that I took the way to “Ancienne Belgique” on this sunny thursday to assist to the first (and single to date...) belgian Zwan concert. Really great indeed to see Billy & Co’s faces.... to see Jimmy Chamberlain at work… and finally, to discover for real, our from-now-on famous David, Matt, and Paz. I arrived at the entrance of the venue, where around fifty fans awaited for the opening of the doors. Always the same ones : I could find back a part of the “hardcore” Pumpkins-fans with whom I came to see a lot of Smashing Pumpkins gigs, some years ago ... Well, funny…. After the opening of the doors, my first reflexion : well.. not too many people. I think that there was a little 1000 people.... Bad period, because of the student’s exams ? mmmh... A little astonishing….Well, this could not be an excuse to attempt to a great show. The support : The “very local” PJDS (hum...) only with the guitar, which quickly made me return to the bar to have a beer. Time to go back in the very beautiful venue of the AB, and let the show begin ! You will find the setlist here : SPFC Website It Begans with "MSOTS" with some problems of adjustment of Billy Corgan’s mic and guitar... The magic of the song is still always there, despite the fact of having already heard it again, and again, and again…, this piece remains in my eyes a pearl... Once again, We could admire the exceptional talent of Jimmy Chamberlain... This guy is definitely the best drummer in the world. Afterwards, the "traditional ones" of the album (Endless Summer, El Sol, Lyric..); the very beautiful "For Your Love", and then in my opinion, the first highlight of the show: "Jesus I - God' S Gonna Set This World On Fire": Wooow!... What an excellent live song ! Despite having already heard it a lot (bootlegs), that one really impressed me... the good mood of Billy during the song was great to see... Afterwards, “Heartsong”, “Honestly”, and “Settle Down”. Then in my opinion, the second big highlight of the evening: "A New Poetry". Simply excellent ! A song that I had undoubtedly underestimated a little; I did not have heard a lot the live electric version of that before, and I just knew very well the "hideout compilation" version… But what a beautiful moment! The first encore : "Riverview" and then, "Baby Let' S Rock". And the superb ending : "Of A Broken Heart" that gave me shivers. That was it for today… No doubt : They conviced me (well, I have to say was convinced in advance….) And according to the general thoughts, everyone seemed convinced, even the persons who less appreciated the album … Reflexions : -the band has fun, it is certain.... It seems they play maybe a little too much for themselves... But anyway, it is so sympathetic to see. -having heard some bootlegs of the recent tour (from February to April), There’s maybe a certain lack of diversity in the shows.... -Not many people indeed…Different causes. But I have to say that the promotion of the album was really poor : the radios did not play that much the single "Honestly", and not yet much "Lyric".... This is also an exams period for the students... -A great audience, sometimes calm, but really attentive to the show : but the atmosphere was sometimes very good. -Matt did not wear its legendary pet. nor its scarf. J -Paz carried indeed its from now on legendary foam-short. A must -David very calm.... -Jimmy Chamberlain always has a huge success regarding the applauses ! 100 times deserved. Pure talent.. -Billy still the same : a genius. Respect. Quite sympathetic, the handshakes at the end of the show. Here it is, end of evening: Purchase of beautiful T- shirt, and a badge And then some beers and to bed towards 2 a.m. : I had to go to work on Friday ! See you next time ....
