April 24, 2003 - Roseland Theatre - Portland, OR, US Concert review by Scott (Scott at filmfever dot org) Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews Great show. I was thrilled to see the Zwan was coming to the city of roses and what better venue then the Roseland. It was an all ages show, so after the first few songs I needed to get away from the kids and have a beer or three in the balcony. Even from up there the show sounded and looked great. It was great to see how into thier music Billy, Paz, Matt, David and Jimmy were. Every note was perfect and they seemed to be having a ball on stage. This was the first time I saw Jimmy live and what an amazing drummer he is. They played just about every cut off of "Mary..." and then some. I loved how they broke up "Jesus, I" at the beginning of the set and "Mary Star of the Sea" at the end of the first set. Favorite tune at the show has got to be "Baby Let's Rock". It did just that; Rocked! The Children's Hour opened the night and they were really good. A bit mellow to start out an evenign with Zwan, but I dug them a lot. It is great to see headliners support thier openers the way Zwan did. Matt even came out and sat in on drums for a couple of songs. I love that they palyed at the Roseland, it's a small enough venue that you could really enjoy the show and not get caught up with the "production" I was able to focus on the loud rockin' music that Zwan gave to us. Thanks Zwan, hope you come back to Portland soon. |
