April 26, 2003 - Paramount Ballroom - Seattle, WA, US Concert review by joel Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews I'm probably going against a lot of the other fans that went to this show expecting to hear "Today" or whatever, but I didn't want or expect it. By the end I hadn't changed my mind. Being whisked to my seat up in the balcony I made my way into the show a little late, but in just enough time to catch the end of the first song. You always feel ..wrong sitting down at a show like this, and soon enough I realized I was getting possessed by epileptic-type fits of movement, as if St.Vitus himself bopped me on the knees. But, no, this is Zwan..wow. By the time this song called (I think) 'God's Gonna Set This World On Fire' everyone on the floor was caught up in it, going apesh**. MS, man, I don't know how long he's been jamming with billy, but those double leads were the best I'd heard since ..uh, what? Allman Bros'? Even the mistakes were fun to watch. And DP, as hard as he might have tried to hang quietly on the side of the stage, I really, really dug his counterpoint and the Ric-pickin. Paz, she's lethal. Good heart. I would suspect she has a big fan club at this point. I'll spare the SP past references to this show because this is a rebirth - quad gtr attack backed by one of the best rock drummers around (or, as he was introduced 'and on guitar, ..Jimmy Chamberlin'). BC was clearly enjoying himself which = amazing show. After all, he's a Pisces, and when they're up they're UP.. I left before the encore, I know, boo hiss. It wasn't because I wasn't enjoying myself. Purely selfish, I just wanted to pretend they never stopped playing, I didn't want to be around all the post-show chatter that might intrude on my headful of joy. Hi Zwan, nice to meet you! |
