April 4, 2003 - Indre Studios - Philadelphia, PA, US Concert review by Jack (alcoac49 at aol dot com) Siva - Zwan : Concert Reviews This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. After not winning tickets to this exclusive show, I went down to Indre anyway for the 75-select person show. Waiting in line, I was able to see the band get off the bus and enter the studio, much to my amazement. Then, after the line of ticket-holders went in, I walked up to the Y100 floozie and asked if there was room for one more. Sympathizing with me, I was allowed to enter. As the band walked down the aisle, literally at an arm's length from the crowd, cheers erupted. Billy sat down and said "Hi" to the crowd. He later explained that, "No, I mean I'm HIGH." Between Endless Summer (which featured Billy on piano!!) and Love Lies in Ruin, Matt Sweeny's guitar broke a string, and while it was being repaired, a colorful banter ensued between the audience and band, as Billy prompted us to tell jokes to pass the time. I was lucky enough to remember one, which made the band laugh, and Jimmy almost fell off his drum stool with his emphatic response. Show notes: Of a Broken Heart - capo at 2nd, though not during electric performances Heartsong - drums added Honestly - false intro, with Billy singing the solo rather than playing it (plus I sang along really loud while no one else did, so hopefully I'll be heard on the recording) Lyric - basically the same, but acousticular Endless Summer - Billy on piano, no drums Love Lies in Ruin - Paz on violin, Djali Zwan is going to be awesome Friends and Lovers - Paz on violin Mary Star of the Sea - Dave on 12-string acoustic All in all it was an amazing show. The 3 guitars matched each other, along with Paz' superb bass and Jimmy's solid drums. The all-acoustic show was something of a dream-come-true, while the practice-like atmosphere made for some unforgettable memories. Being in a small room with some of Earth's mightiest musicians isn't something that happens once, and I will cherish the experience for the rest of my life. |
