Billy Corgan: Uhhh . . . girlfriend things. My girlfriend’s family lives up there.
IE: Jessica?
BC: Heh heh heh. Let’s just skip all that.
IE: Well, several entertainment sites promise to tell us who you’re dating. It’s sad that you’ve now turned into prey for tabloid predators. Even reality-TV shows all feature cutthroat people competing for some sleazy prize. What’s gone wrong, as you see it?
BC: I think we’re in a sort of exponential, continually accelerating sort of . . . self-examination? And one that’s probably unprecedented in human history. And technology, of course, is facilitating that. And there are interesting upsides. Like, for example, …

Wisconsin's most famous music studio, Smart Studios in Madison, will shut down this spring, the Shepherd Express has learned. An employee of the recording space confirmed the news. According to a post picked up by the LA Weekly's Off the Record blog, Corgan will team with frequent collaborator Kerry "Studio Dog" Brown to helm a new, as-yet-unnamed imprint that will release fresh cuts from the Germs and a bevy of older, relatively obscure acts like '60s flashes-in-the-pan Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Electric Prunes.
"In the very near future we plan on recording two [Germs] songs that [the late] Darby Crash wrote wi…

"It's all about the Internet. Musically, I think it really affects the idea of creating a body of work. It's sort of made everything about having a moment.
Just having a great song doesn't seem to be enough anymore -- there has to be a great story, a controversy, because people just don't have enough time. I grew up in the shadow of the '50s and '60s where the singles market, where it being about one song, had passed, and it was more about albums and a body of work. Now, careers are made and broken one song at a time. It has a reductionist aspect to it.
But if you look at who really winds up surviving on the artistic battlefield, it's those who somehow maintain a level of inner integrity. Things of quality will be more successful ove…
